American Legion James River Post 354 of Midlothian, Virginia is fortunate to have a valuable asset that directly supports the mission of the American Legion and its Four Pillars: approximately five acres of property and a meeting hall situated along the scenic banks of the James River.
This asset can be leveraged in two meaningful ways—by generating rental income to support Post operations, or by being made available to organizations whose activities align with and advance the American Legion’s mission.
When evaluating rental discounts, it can sometimes be difficult to assess how a particular event contributes to that mission. For this reason, a clear understanding of the American Legion’s mission and its Four Pillars is essential. Click the links below to learn more.
Discounts may range from 0% to 100%, depending on the nature of the event and its alignment with the mission of the American Legion.
Private events—such as birthdays, weddings, and similar gatherings—do not qualify for discounts. Revenue from these events is used to maintain Post 354’s facilities and to support outreach efforts for veterans and community organizations that advance the mission.
Each year, Post 354 may choose to sponsor selected individuals, groups, or organizations from the local community whose goals closely align with those of Post 354 by offering rental discounts.
Other individuals, groups, or organizations may request consideration for a discount by submitting a value statement that explains how their event supports the mission of the American Legion and/or Post 354. When preparing a value statement, please keep the following excerpt from the American Legion mission statement in mind:
“To enhance the well-being of America’s veterans, their families, our military, and our communities by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.”
The concept of mutual helpfulness can also include an exchange of benefits. For example, JROTC teams have assisted Post 354 with spring and fall grounds cleanup—just one of many ways mutual support can be demonstrated.
